Meet Jennifer
Meet Jennifer - The Why
This is Jennifer's story. Jennifer was thirteen (13) years old the first time she was raped--by her stepdad. Jennifer, feeling violated and confused, went to tell her mother what happened. Her mother responded by saying, "You have always been jealous of your stepdad and I's relationship. Stop bothering me with your lies."
Jennifer continued to be abused for the next three (3) years until she had had enough, and moved out at the age of sixteen (16). Living on the streets was less than ideal, so Jennifer found an older boyfriend that would take her in. Being raised without a father, Jennifer sought comfort, affection, and protection from males and found herself pregnant by the age of sixteen (16) and the mother of four (4), by the age of twenty (20).
This was not the life Jennifer had planned for herself, and found herself turning to methamphetamine to numb the pain. This choice became a major contributing factor that led to Jennifer's crime and incarceration in the Central California Women's Facility (CCWF), where there are 3,000 women with similar stories.
Jennifer completed her GED and the Computer and Related Technologies (CRT) program while incarcerated, and led several self-help groups. Jennifer was released in 2021 at twenty-six years old (26), but without any notable work history and few job skills.
So now we wonder, what jobs will Jennifer qualify for? How will her life end up? Will Jennifer return to prison? We do not know.
Jennifer is the type of individual we are aiming to help.
